Firefly .46 Glow Engine
The Firefly.46 was designed by Alex Whittaker as a Build-It-Yourself project which could be made on a small lathe, as a first engine by a keen aeromodeller. It is a practical r/c engine capable of flying a 6 1/2 lb fully aerobatic model. It also has an innovative r/c controlled in-flight mixture control and carburettor. The truly excellent RCME magazine plans and 3D renderings were drawn up by Glenn Royds, directly from Alex's prototype. The Firefly Proving Group comprises Alex, Glenn, and these superb volunteeers who each made an engine from Glenn's plans: Mike Havard, Mike Bundy, John Payne and Frank Payne. Each engine was built successfully from the plans available here, and ran first time.
